Does the idea of sharing your marriage problems, or problems in general, with people horrify you? Are you concerned with what they would think if they only knew the truth about your life?

Sometimes the hardest place to be honest and come clean about your marriage not being perfect is inside the church. But is that the way it’s supposed to be? Was it really God’s design for the church to be a place for the broken, or are we missing that and still trying to show up perfect?

We can read scripture after scripture about the benefits of praying for one another, encouraging one another, and grieving together, and yet we still hide. Instead of sharing our brokenness we choose to suffer silently in pride and in fear. This cripples the church. It removes the opportunity for followers of Christ to actually be able to follow Christ in His call to love one another, to care for one another and to walk beside one another.

Perhaps hiding in shame isn’t the answer after all.
